Frequently Asked Questions
-
How many years have you been practicing medicine?
I have been in practice nearly twenty years and have decided to dedicate the remainder of my career helping those who suffer from chronic conditions and pain to live with a better quality of life than they did before they met me. I am committed to the alleviation of suffering wherever it may be which is why I take at least 45 minutes with every new patient to understand the root causes of your illness or pain so that I can understand how to help you live a better and healthier life.
-
What should I know about you?
My practice philosophy is putting your interests before anything else. You are the most important part of our relationship. You should be able to trust the person taking care of you completely. I should always be working towards better health for you and maintaining communication with you about what is the best course of treatment for your condition and why. You should be a participant in your own care and your opinions and thoughts should always be welcome not dismissed. You should be respected.
-
What insurances do you take?
I don't take any form of insurance but I do allow you to pay your copay for the first visit if you have any commercial insurance plan with no additional billing to determine if you want to be a patient of the practice. I do no additional billing to you or your insurance. I want to show you the simplicity of my plan of care which values accessibility, time with the patient, accuracy of diagnosis, holistic approach to care and being heard as superior to the current system of five to ten minutes.
-
Why did you start this practice?
In the last 3 years at my last employed position I saw a decline in patient's trust in their physician, long wait times for the patient and short periods with the actual physician, an increase in preauthorizations and denials of legitimate care and my patients asking me if I could spend more time with them. I was at a crossroads in my life and my conscience was in conflict between giving more time and seeing more patients. I created a clinic that respects patients time and satisfies my beliefs.
-
What kind of a physician are you?
I am a family physician. I have been practicing in Houston area for most of my career. I can treat about 90 percent of conditions without needing a specialist and when needed, I consult with colleagues who are experts in their area of training. I only refer to specialists who I have met, worked with or recommended by other specialists as being honest and caring. I won't send any patient to someone I wont go to myself or send a family member, that's not me. I take nothing from other physicians.
-
Do you take Medicare, Tricare or Medicaid?
I don't participate in any of these insurance plans and receive no compensation for the care of any government insurance plan. These plans will not pay for any imaging studies I request or blood work since I am not a participating physician. I cannot in good conscience see patients and make them pay for something that they should not be responsible for at all due to this issue. I am happy to recommend colleagues and clinics that do, however, if you would like a recommendation.
-
Why don't you take insurance?
As a solo physician I have limited time, I prefer spending time with patients over time spent with insurance companies dealing with pre-authorizations and denials and verification of benefits and collecting deductibles and co-pays. My relationship with my patients is important to me and I prefer taking care of your health concerns rather than worry about getting paid. You are important to me not the insurance companies. I don't want anyone or anything to get in the way of your access to me.
-
What is different about this clinic?
I pick up the phone and answer you every time, whether it is to schedule an appointment or to answer a question, it is always me. There is no barrier to me and this ensures your message is heard loud and clear. I make appointments and try to see you at that scheduled time, not an hour later. I spend as much time with you as you need so you feel heard as long as it doesn't go over the time of someone else. I follow all labs and images and discuss them with you consistently and quickly.
-
What is your model of care?
My model of care is unique, it is similar to a concierge model without the limitation of number of patients or the membership monthly cost. I want anyone who wants to see a physician be able to do so at a reasonable price that is fair to the patient and fair to my business. I don't sell you anything that you don't need or push tests on you that have limited utility to you and I try to be cost conscious which we need with the skyrocketing cost of care. I try to be accessible to my patients always.
-
What is unique about your care or you as a physician?
I believe in equal access to healthcare and that it is a right not a privilege whether you are employed or not. I believe that a physician should be compassionate, caring, kind, empathetic, sympathetic, patient, humble, honest, respectful, competent, knowledgeable, an active listener, trustworthy, selfless and consistently act in your best interest. I believe the holistic approach to care is the best way to practice and believe in the connection between physical, mental and spiritual health.
